Poll: Most Americans Really Love Canada

Canada holds a high approval rating among Americans, a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found — higher than major American politicians.

Seventy-five percent of Americans surveyed had positive feelings about Canada, the poll found. Canada ranked top on the list of favorable and unfavorable ratings in the national poll. President Barack Obama came in second place, with 51% of Americans holding a positive view.

Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, who leads rival Donald Trump by six points among likely voters, according to the poll, got an approval rating of 37%, while Trump received a 28% approval.

Low on the list were Russian president Vladimir Putin, with a 6% approval rating, Green Party candidate Jill Stein, with 9% and Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson, 14%.

According to the poll, 59% of Americans surveyed view the news media unfavorably.

The poll, conducted Sept. 16-19, surveyed 1,000 registered voters. It has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. Of the 922 likely voters in the poll, the margin of error is plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
