The pop duo A Great Big World has released a music video spotlighting a diverse group of survivors who overcame extreme challenges.
Chad King wanted to create the pounding track “Won’t Stop Running” to inspire the kind of against-all-odds perseverance that helped him. In 2007, King was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. His doctor’s prediction: he’d be paralyzed in seven years. “That was nine years ago, and I’m feeling as healthy as ever,” King told TIME. An earlier version of this music video focused solely on King and the other half of the duo, Ian Axel. But in this new one, thirteen people with true survival stories team up for the black and white video directed by Lee Cherry.
“Ian and I wanted to invite individuals who’ve had inspiring journeys and struggles of their own to sing this song with us. We are so humbled and proud to share these positive examples of human potential. They remind us that there is still a lot of light in the world.”
The inclusive effort celebrates people who were determined enough to power through all kinds of dead-ends like bullying, abuse and disease. One of the people featured, Sidiki, who has polio, climbs out of his wheelchair and dances and Bev Brown, who survived cancer twice with one lung and no health insurance, stands proudly.
