Ricky Gervais will be back as host of the 2016 Golden Globes, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced on Monday.
Gervais previously hosted the awards show in 2010, 2011 and 2012 in a controversial run that drew some praise for edginess and lots of criticism for rudeness. Yet the HFPA is apparently ready to take a risk on him again, announcing the news cheekily on Twitter.
“We’re excited to have Ricky Gervais back to host the most enjoyable awards show of the season in his own inimitable way,” NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt told Variety in a statement. “Disarming and surprising, Ricky is ready to honor — and send up — the best work of the year in film and television. Fasten your seats belts.”
The award show will take place on Jan. 10.
